Discover the vibrant Indian culture when you volunteer alongside local teachers supporting disadvantaged children in the southern state of Kerala
We currently work in two local schools. Most of the children who attend the schools live in the local slum or are from poor families.
Children are between the ages of 4-13 years old. Your hours will coincide with the school days and you will also spend some time on leading small classes.
You can expect to volunteer between 4-6 hours a day, starting at around 9:40am.
In the evenings you will need to spend alot of time on planning lessons for the next day. This will be group planning with the other volunteers and the Education coordinator, but will have to take responsibility for making sure that the lesson plan is complete and executed well.
You will also get the chance to work with groups of children in tutorials where you can be creative and organise extracurricular activities, indoor/outdoor games and so on.
During the school holidays and when there are public holidays due to festivals, you will work alone or in pairs do group exercises in English learning, yoga, dance, sports or arts!
