European Solidarity Corps – Volunteering opportunities in Denmark

1st August 2025 – 31st July 2026 

The volunteer will be part of the 18+ team in the office which consists of four staff members.

He/she will also be a member of the volunteer 18+ committee which oversees planning and implementing 3-day camps for 18+ participants, conducting information meetings for potential applicants and new volunteers, as well as for receiving incoming 18+ participants and ensuring that all participants receive proper training and skill development.

He/she will be part of both the key staff members and volunteers to get an in-depth understanding of the way AFS Interkultur is organising its activities in Denmark and how we work with our volunteers.

The main tasks include:

• Being the liaison between the AFS office and the AFS volunteers in charge of the 18+ programme work, helping them recruit new volunteers and motivate the existing, preparing orientations for Danish and foreign participants in our 18+ programmes, etc. This will give him/her a thorough knowledge and experience in how to work with volunteers in a volunteer-driven organization.
• Being a full and equal member of the volunteer committee, sharing the responsibilities and supporting the cooperation between committee and office. This also means taking part in the weekly evening meetings of the committee.
• The volunteer will also be responsible for, participate in, and learn how to facilitate our Global Competence Certificate course, where we train and certify youth in intercultural learning. You will help facilitate both online and in-person trainings.
• Being directly involved in the implementation of meetings and orientations as co-facilitator, including the 4 x 3-day weekend orientations offered to our 18+ participants. This will enable him/her to get hands-on experience in the running of volunteer youth activities and doing workshops/presentations. Among other topics, the orientations will be about team building, solidarity cultural encounters and conflict resolution.
• Pick-ups. Twice a year – August and January, we have 18+ participants arriving for programs and some require “picking up” at the airport / train station.
• Being trained as a facilitator of the intercultural learning course offered to 18+ participants giving him/her an in-depth understanding of intercultural learning.
• Being trained and work on programmatic and administrative issues linked to AFS youth exchange and voluntary service programmes such as public relations, quality assurance, project management, networking and partnership building, etc.
• The volunteer’s learning process in the above fields will be supported by on-the-job training whenever needed, structured and informal discussions as well as regular planning and sum-up meetings.
• The volunteer will have access to and will work with publications and online information about different types of youth and voluntary service programmes and implementation guidelines, which will enable him/her to gain knowledge about such programmes and the issues at stake when implementing international youth exchange and voluntary service programmes.

Furthermore, we are very open to the volunteer’s interests and learning goals. If the volunteer has specific skills or skills he/she wants to develop it will be possible to tailor the tasks in the scope of what we do.

The ideal volunteer should have experience with, and/or interest within:

• Intercultural learning and communication.
• Working with volunteers in a volunteer-driven organization.
• Travelling and cultural experiences.
• Being fluent in English is mandatory, and an eagerness to learn Danish is highly appreciated. Though this committee is very intercultural and multinational much of the work and the written documentation you will work with is in Danish, and it will be a big advantage to be willing and keen to learn Danish fast. You will be supported in your learning journey by your colleagues and fellow committee members.
• A skilled organizer of complex logistics
• PC literacy (Word, Excel) is mandatory. Other digital skills are an asset.
• We prefer a creative person who enjoys speaking in front of a crowd and who is motivated to work in a dynamic intercultural atmosphere.
• He/she should be prepared to work also in the evenings and weekends.
• The volunteer should also be diligent and reliable and willing to work overtime in peak seasons.

Ultimately, the person you are, and your motivation is more important to us than your resumé. The following are some of the interpersonal skills we are looking for.

The volunteer will be working at our office in Copenhagen. We are located approximately 3.5 km from the city centre. You should expect to work approximately 37 hours a week. At this time the volunteer can do his/her Danish lessons as well. There will occasionally be evening/weekend work as well. The hours done outside office hours can be taken off at other times. The volunteer will receive two days off per month.  

The working language is Danish and the EVS volunteer will be expected to learn Danish to a certain degree. Until the volunteer feels more comfortable with Danish, we will use English.  

AFS will be responsible for finding accommodation for the volunteer. It is expected that the volunteer will be accommodated at CPH Village however, the final arrangements are still to be confirmed.

As a part of the European Solidarity Corps program, the following is covered by us:

• • International transport is covered to a certain amount. The EU sets a budget depending on the distance to our office. If you travel in a green way your budget will be higher!

The daily activities of the volunteers will take place at Balleskolen in Silkeborg. Each applicant will be placed in a team that collaborates around a specific grade level. They will also participate in after-school activities related to that same age group. As the initial plan, one volunteer will join the team working with primary school students and the after-school program (SFO) The other volunteer will collaborate with the team working with middle school students and the youth club.

Both volunteers will actively engage in school activities during the day and in after-school programs in the afternoon, working alongside staff and students. Their roles will be adapted to their skills and interests, allowing them to make meaningful contributions across different aspects of school life. Volunteers will be integrated into the school’s ongoing character development project, supporting the promotion of values such as empathy, responsibility, and respect both in the classroom and in after-school programs. Their primary responsibilities include:

• Assisting teachers during lessons and activities.
• Contributing their own ideas to workshops and activities in the school.
• Collaborating with their assigned teams to develop learning and social activities.
• Supporting students in their learning processes during the day.
• Leading or supporting after-school programs such as sports, arts, and music.
• Building meaningful relationships with students and staff.

Volunteers will also have the chance to contribute to the school’s annual theatrical concert and other cultural events, bringing their own creativity and cultural perspectives to the process.

Both volunteers will be integrated into the school’s team-oriented environment, where teachers and pedagogues plan and collaborate closely. They will participate in planning meetings, receive support from mentors, and have room to take initiative. Volunteers are encouraged to share songs, games, and traditions from their home countries, enriching the school’s cultural environment, while also learning about the Danish school system.

We are looking for two enthusiastic volunteers, who are ready to contribute and immerse themselves in the environment of Balleskolen. We wish that both volunteers:

Volunteers should be motivated to engage in the character development project. They should be excited to contribute to the school’s efforts in working with values such as empathy, respect, and responsibility, both in and out of the classroom. We also prefer that volunteers have an interest in music and want to contribute to the musical profile of the school.

Your schedule will be tailored as much as possible to your interests and skills, allowing you to make a meaningful impact while exploring new opportunities for growth.

The volunteer will stay with a local Danish host family.

In the host families the volunteer will be expected to become part of the family and as such take part in the activities and responsibilities in the family. The volunteer will have his/her three meals provided by the host family and/or project. Transport to and from home to the project is covered by the programme.

At Kalø Økologiske Landbrugskole they imagine that the volunteers are enrolled in a mixed program along the year according to the season. All year long farming, including livestock (pigs, sheep, hens, cows), plants, field work, managing agricultural machinery, preparing vegetables for the farm shop etc. Farming will involve establishing, maintaining, and harvesting crops as well as animal care-taking, processing or selling the meat. The school uses their own crops and meat in the organic school kitchen. The school also have a farm shop with a large variety of vegetables, which the volunteer also will be involved in to preparing.

In general the volunteer will get the opportunity to learn about domestic animal care, animals’ and plants’ annual cycles, greenhouse and outdoor farming, becoming acquainted with organic and sustainable cultivation. As animals can be hungry at all times a day, the volunteers should be prepared to work outside normal office hours. Naturally they will be given time off at other times.

The  volunteer will live at the school together with the students and will be expected to integrate him or herself in the social life as well as the responsibilities at Kalø. The school has a large selection of student driven social activities and facilities such as choir, fitness room, table tennis, pool, football etc. The surrounding nature obviously gives you the possibilities of bathing in the ocean (it might be cold, though), walking or biking in the forest. In Aarhus you can also find plenty of opportunities for spare time activities.

Areas of activity: Citizenship and democratic formation

We are looking for 1 volunteer to be a helper in Alderslyst youth club (Ungdomsklub) and at leisure teams. You will work together with one or two employees; therefore, you will be part of the planning, implementation and evaluation of projects. We expect you to be energetic and have the will to challenge yourself and our organization with your ideas.

You will primarily work with young people aged 13 – 18. We create a free space that gives young people the opportunity to develop professionally, personally and socially. These are voluntary activities in the club as well as courses and classes that teach languages, sports, music, creative courses and much more.

We are looking for a volunteer who is motivated to create small projects in various areas together with young people. You are expected to be responsible, independent – sometimes you will work on your own. You need good communicative English and must be motivated by working with young people. Flexible, tolerant and ready to take initiative. Willing to live in Denmark, learn the language, experience the climate and culture. You must be willing to share your culture and knowledge.

The volunteer will stay with a local Danish host family.

In the host families the volunteer will be expected to become part of the family and as such take part in the activities and responsibilities in the family. The volunteer will be part of the Program Department in the office which consists of nine staff members. 

He/she will also be a member of the volunteer committee POK.  which is responsible for planning and implementing camps for AFS school program participants, conducting information meetings for potential applicants, and keeping young national volunteers actively engaged. POK meets every Tuesday to coordinate, plan and socialize. After meetings they always eat together and hang out as a group. Thus, POK is not only volunteer work, but also a social community.

He/she will job-shadow both key staff members and volunteers to get an in-depth understanding of the way AFS Interkultur is organizing its activities in Denmark.

The main tasks include: 

• Being the liaison between the AFS-office staff and the national AFS-volunteers, helping them recruit new volunteers and motivating the exciting ones, preparing orientations for Danish and foreign participants etc. This will give him/her a thorough knowledge and experience in how to work with volunteers in a volunteer-driven organization.
• Taking part in the weekly evening meetings of the volunteer committee. 
• Being directly involved in the implementation of meetings and orientations as co-facilitator. This will enable him/her to get hands-on experience in the running of volunteer youth activities. Among other topics, the trainings will be about teambuilding, cultural encounters and conflict resolution. The activities also include a variety of practical tasks.
• Being a co-coordinator of the fall camp
• Being trained and work on programmatic and administrative issues linked to AFS youth exchange and voluntary service programs such as: public relations, quality assurance, project management, networking and partnership building, etc. The volunteer’s learning process in the above fields will be supported by on-the-job training whenever needed, structured and informal discussions as well as regular planning and sum-up meetings.
• Coordinate volunteers engaging in intercultural learning activities at schools. 
• The volunteer will also be invited to join an ongoing effort to develop and distribute information and knowledge regarding intercultural learning in and outside of the AFS Interkultur, through various channels.
• The volunteer will have access to and will work with publications and on-line information about different types of youth and voluntary service programmes and implementation guidelines, which will enable him/her to gain knowledge about such programmes and the issues at stake when implementing international youth exchange and voluntary service programmes.
• Airport pick-ups and send-offs. A part of this role’s responsibilities is to ensure that arriving and departing school program participants are being well received or sent off on their adventure. This particular task very often takes place outside normal office hours.
• Furthermore, we are very open to the volunteer’s interests and learning goals. If the volunteer has specific skills or skills he/she wants to develop it will be possible to tailor the tasks in the scope of what we do.

Much of the work of this position takes place outside normal office hours in evening hours and over the weekend. These hours will of course be counted equally to working office hours.

The ideal volunteer should have experience with, and/or interest within:

• Intercultural learning and communication.
• Working with volunteers in a volunteer-driven organization.
• It is ideal if being social in larger groups of people energizes and motivates you
• Travelling and cultural experiences.
• Being fluent in English is mandatory.
• A keen motivation to learn Danish, as Danish is the main language of communication and will open many more opportunities and possibilities. You will be helped and supported by everyone.
• PC literacy (Word, Excel) is mandatory. Other digital skills are an asset.

The Volunteer will support the organisation’s activities and partnerships in Greenland. He/She will be based at the secretariat in Copenhagen and will work across different teams, primarily the program team and the organisation development team. He/she will job-shadow key staff members to get an in-depth understanding of the way AFS Interkultur is organizing its activities. The tasks of the volunteer will include:

Working with the program team

• Offering insight about Greenland and Greenlandic culture to staff who work with Greenlandic participants.
• Helping with the translation of materials and dialogue – including for example participating in interviews with participants and in dialogue with parents.
• Helping reach out to young people in Greenland to inform them about the different opportunities that are available to them through AFS DK

Working with organisation development team

• Supporting work on strengthening volunteer networks in Greenland.
• Contributing to the creation of strategies for recruiting and sustaining volunteers in Greenland.
• Support in planning a visit to Greenland for European staff.
• Supporting measures to introduce European Solidarity Corps to young people and stakeholders in Greenland.

This position is specifically addressing residents of Greenland, or residents of Denmark who have spent time living in Greenland and have a deep understanding of Greenlandic culture and language.

• Travelling and cultural experiences.

AFS Interkultur will have the role of lead, support, and host organisation in this activity. That means that we will support the volunteer in the preparation phase and we will be responsible for the coordination of practical arrangements and activity related support and mentorship.

September 1st 2025 – June 2026

At the beginning of the stay, there will be a start-up meeting between the volunteer, mentor, and the management of the school. Here the volunteer will be introduced to the school and its rules and regulations. 

We are looking for two volunteers within two different fields.

1. SoMe, and marketing tasks: you will be working closely with the office and a couple of teachers responsible for the Social Media profiles and other platforms. We expect you to be part of special occasions, daily school life, and documenting fun and games. You will be equipped with a camera and a computer. Besides this, there will be a variety of tasks according to your skills and interests. 
2. Taking part in the practical tasks: you will be part of the kitchen team and get to work with the students. All the students take part in the kitchen work, and you will get a chance to connect with the students during the tasks. Besides that, you can be part of the outdoor team according to your skills and interests.

Both volunteers will be part of the evening shifts and weekends. You will be asked to arrange social activities according to your skills and interests. Evening activities are about giving our students the oportunity to join different kinds of social activities to get involved with each other.

Furthermore, events, weekend activities, and parties with the students can be arranged by the volunteers, in collaboration with the staff.

Examples of activities: games night, outdoor activities, sports activities, music quizzes, walking, discussion clubs, etc. Some activities are mandatory – others optional.

In some cases, it is possible for the volunteers to participate in the optional subjects, either as a teaching assistant or as a participant eg. Pottery, art, sewing, volleyball, handball, music etc.

We expect you to learn Danish, ordinarily in language school and will plan your volunteer work according to the language school schedule. 

At Blåkilde Efterskole we find it very important that the volunteer can agree to the core values of the school.

This is an independent boarding school with connection to the Evangelical Lutheran Church in Denmark, and on a daily basis we gather in devotion, which is something that the volunteer has to be willing to participate in.

Moreover, it is important that the volunteer wishes to be with and cooperate with our students, and that the volunteer is interested in learning Danish. At the same time, we expect to be able to communicate effortlessly in English as well.

Individual activities depending on the volunteers´ interests and competencies in these 2 areas:

1. Practical work in our small permaculture garden and greenhouse and in our sustainable construction area. Assisting teachers in various practical tasks and in classes. Some tasks will be outdoor all year round.
2. Practical work in our office with various office tasks and being the link between students and the office, which requires good communication, organization and computer skills, and in our kitchen, assisting kitchen staff with various practical tasks.The individual activities will be the main part of the volunteers´ activities, so please state in your application which of the 2 areas you would prefer to work with and why.

General activities for all volunteers:

• Every weekend one of the volunteers will help the teacher with planning student activities, coordinating the meals, making sure that kitchen and weekend duties are done by the students and if needed welcoming guests to the school. The teacher who is responsible for the weekend will always be back up.
• Facilitating intercultural/leisure activities for the students.
• Participation in all arrangements and events run by the school and connected associations.
• Sport activities (optional).
• During our short-term summer courses, the tasks will also include service jobs like running a small bar, cleaning, working in the kitchen and assisting teachers in various activities.

It is important for you to be aware that the tasks can vary throughout the year depending on our different courses and activities.

Volunteers above 24 years of age, who are open-minded, reflective, mature and full of initiative will be preferred.

The volunteers must be able to speak English at a conversational level.

A volunteer with a non-Danish cultural background will hopefully give us extra energy and inspiration to our work with sustainability and cultural exchange.

DTU has a renewed focus on Diversity, Equity and Inclusion (DEI) and as such, parallel to the standard goings-on of the campus, DEI initiatives are integral to the wellbeing of students both on campus and at our student residences. 

Our Student’ Culture Hub team is one such initiative, and it is this team of which our four  ESC volunteers become a part. Student’s Culture Hub creates community building activities with the mission of creating inclusion and fostering belonging and combating loneliness on campus, and at our student residences. This is done through various activities, events and happenings that can range from cultural celebrations (Chinese New Year, Day of the Dead, Easter etc) to the fun-and-quirky (Cheese Rolling, Open Stage Jam, Drop-In DnD Night etc.).

The team also helps build communities across both bachelor, masters and exchange students, through their respectice orientation programmes, as well as across the period of the project.

Volunteers should have knowledge/interest in diversity, equity and inclusion; community building with a focus on belonging, and have a flair for event coordination, planning and execution. The volunteer should feel comfortable with public speaking and network creation.

The volunteer will be part of the special fellowship that exists on a Danish Efterskole and Folk High School. As the volunteer is older than the students, he/she will also be positioned as leaders, persons of authority and consultants, and this is a great opportunity for the volunteer to develop her/his pedagogical abilities and the ability to structure and plan events for others.

In addition the volunteer will have other task defined by EUH. Activities could be:

• To participate in the making of a warm and welcoming atmosphere in the dorm for international students
• To create a stimulating learning environment in which our students will be able to thrive, grow, and prosper. This work requires both practical help to meet the resident requirements from the Danish Authorities and a lot of “just being around” the young people attending the school, facilitating a functional collective oozing of respect in between the dorm students in which there should also be room for individual differences

These tasks EUH hopes, is to be met in the social work at the school as well as in the curriculum courses (as teacher’s assistant). The volunteer will mainly work to strengthen cultural awareness amongst the students through a variety of inter-cultural arrangements and pedagogically planned events during the entire course. All activities have the main end of enlighten and empower our students in a way that’ll enable them to develop on a personal level and to participate as full citizens in a democratic society.

EUH offers an intellectual and emotional stimulating environment with highly competent and engaged colleagues and a broad variety of challenges pertaining to create the best possible Folk High School for our students. The volunteer at Halvorsminde will get the opportunity to participate as a teacher’s assistant or create his/her own elective course. Currently the school offers the following elective courses: Badminton, arts, table tennis, challenge, dancing, E-sport, fitness, soccer, gymnastics, arts and crafts, handball, media, music, psychology, horseback riding, swimming, woodshop and metal.

In addition, the volunteer will have the opportunity to arrange and participate in activities outside of the regular classes such as movie nights, food ball matches etc.

The volunteer will have regular meetings with the mentor. The purpose is that the mentor together with the volunteer set up some learning goals and also involve the volunteer in the process of developing the activities in relation to his/her interests and skills.

However, the typical tasks at Halvorsminde will be both practical work with the caretaker at the school, work in the kitchen or tasks related to teaching. It can be both in relation to language classes, sport classes and other creative classes.

Further, evening activities and events for the students can be arranged by the volunteers in corporation with the staff.

Volunteers with interest in creative subjects, sports and movement and if possible languages such as Spanish, German and English are a big plus.  However, we welcome all nationalities.

The volunteers will participate in the daily morning gathering when we sing traditional songs and share stories with teachers and children, and the teaching as a supportive adult ( usually there are 2 teachers per class) where it makes sense and where their interests are in particular, as well as in the afterschool program. We would very much like to invite our volunteers to make presentations about their country or their interests in a school context.

In our school there will be workdays with practical work where the families attend the school and we have a joint meal and do practical work a couple of times a year. In addition, during the school year, there will be project weeks/days that you will be a part of as well as traditions around yearly festivals and more.

We are looking for someone mature who is older than 20 years old. It’s important that the volunteer has the ability to interact with the children in a good and meaningful way. The volunteer should be interested in working with children, and interested in the development of children. The volunteer should be open minded and able to speak English on a conversational level. German language speaking skills are appreciated too.

The volunteer will stay with a local Danish host family.

In the host families the volunteer will be expected to become part of the family and as such take part in the activities and responsibilities in the family. The volunteer will have his/her three meals provided by the host family and/or project. Transport to and from home to the project is covered by the programme.

We will find a host family among the school’s families, so you will experience becoming part of the local school community. The volunteers will have his/her meals together with the families and bring a lunch packet to the project.

As all of the students also visit other countries, the most important tasks for the volunteer is to create an intercultural environment at the school. This could be done through informal cultural activities, dancing classes, language classes etc. – good ideas are welcome! There are often activities in the evening or in the weekend. Often it will be expected of the volunteer to participate in or contribute to these activities. If the volunteer is responsible for the activity he or she will of course have another day off, but the volunteer is encouraged to participate in as many activities as possible in order to have a rewarding experience of the stay. The average working hours will be 6 hours a day excluding Danish classes for the volunteer. An important outcome of the stay is also that students develop their social and personal skills so they are ready to continue their studies and an independent adult life after their stay.

The volunteer must be mature, open-minded and able to work based on his/her own initiative. We would prefer a person with a good command of spoken and written English language and either Spanish or French. Volunteers with a creative skill – dance, music, sports etc. will be preferred, but other cultural skills will be important assets. We are also looking for volunteers who are native speakers of either English, French or Spanish. Volunteers with an interest in globalization are also welcome. And you should be prepared to live in the countryside among a lot of young people.

Being a volunteer at our højskole, means that you become part of a small, strong community, where students and staff live and work together. The one or two volunteers are invited into the planning process, for them to put their personal stamp on activities in classes and other areas. The planning will be made together with the volunteers either ahead of, or at the very beginning of their stay. The volunteers are also involved in the practical and pedagogical processes at UHR, why they will participate in the weekly staff meetings. Further, the volunteers will take part in the work with the contact groups. Another important aspect of the volunteers’ integration and connection to the students and teachers at the UHR are
the meals which the volunteers will have together with the staff and students.

Typical tasks at UHR will, on one hand, be practical work with office, caretaker, kitchen, cleaning, or teaching. On the other hand, it will be of pedagogical character in relation to language classes, sports classes, or creative classes. Evening activities, classes and events for the students can be arranged by the volunteers in corporation with the staff. The volunteers will have a weekly evening at work, either by socializing or making activities with or classes for the students.
Volunteering work can take place on weekdays as well as in weekends.

As a volunteer you will have a teacher for your mentor. You will follow this teacher’s contact group. Moreover, volunteers assist the teachers on the two study trips in Autumn and in Spring.

Christmas holiday is from 20/12 2025 till 2/1 2026, where the school is closed. Volunteers can stay at the school during the vacation, but there are no meals at the school.

Accommodation is in a small apartment on campus, in single rooms. All meals are served in the school’s dining room.

The following criteria would be preferable:

– The students at UHR are between 16 and 19 years, so volunteers around mid- twenties to thirty will be preferred.
– Volunteers that can contribute in areas such as teaching, kitchen, office, cleaning and handiwork will be preferred.
– English speaking volunteers will be preferred.

The volunteers are lodged at the Youth folk high school’s grounds in a small apartment. Each
volunteer has their own room and share a living room, bathroom and small kitchen. All meals will

Areas of activity: Education, citizenship and democratic formation

We are looking for 1 volunteer who is active and motivated to take part in teaching and create small projects in various areas together with young people. You will work closely with one or two of the school’s teachers; you will be part of the planning, execution and evaluation of various teaching courses. We expect you to be energetic and have the will to challenge yourself and our organization with your ideas.

You will primarily work with young people aged 15 – 17. The task consists of assisting one or two teachers in teaching the students in the 10th grade, which in Denmark is a voluntary school year between primary school and secondary education. You will mainly be associated with our international profile in subjects such as languages, electives and joint classes. 

We are looking for a volunteer who is motivated to take part in teaching and create small projects in various areas together with young people. You are expected to be responsible, independent – sometimes you will work on your own. You need good communicative English and must be motivated by working with young people. Flexible, tolerant and ready to take initiative. Willing to live in Denmark, learn the language, experience the climate and culture. You must be willing to share your culture and knowledge.

The volunteer will stay with a local Danish host family.

In the host families the volunteer will be expected to become part of the family and as such take part in the activities and responsibilities in the family. The everyday life at the center contains lots of different work depending on the season. The spring activities will primarily be preparing the boats and the camping site for the summer season. The summer is the busy time of the season where we arrange trips for our visitors – mostly sailing dinghies, SUP and kayaks. The volunteer will participate in the everyday work on their own and together with the other employees at the center. This work includes sailing, upkeeping the dinghies, painting, cutting grass, cleaning, guiding tourists, upkeeping the campsite and various gear.
There might be a possibility of helping in our cafe and events.

We also learn from our volunteers. The volunteers add further life and energy to the center which is highly valued. There is one employee at the center as well as freelancers. The primary target group is children and youths whom we educate and with whom we sail. The secondary target group is a mix of different visitors, who come to our boatyard, exhibition and campsite.

The volunteer must like being outdoor as most of the activities at the center are outdoor activities. A big part of the job is to be with guests in the campground so good social skills are highly required. The volunteer must be open-minded and prepared to be involved in all the various tasks together with the rest of the staff. The volunteer must be able to speak English at a conversational level.

The volunteer will either stay with a local Danish host family or at the hosting project.

In the host families the volunteer will be expected to become part of the family and as such take part in the activities and responsibilities in the family. The volunteer will have his/her three meals provided by the host family and/or project. Transport to and from home to the project is covered by the programme.

If the volunteer lives at the hosting project, the volunteer will eat his/her meals there.

As a part of the European Solidarity Corps program, the following is covered by us:

Højskolen Snoghøj is looking for a volunteer handling the following tasks:

• Documenting student’s activities and everyday life at the school (with a camera)
• Recording the performances and artistic projects
• Editing and graphic work
• Strategic web communication and the opportunity to work with Social Media
• Ad hoc help with the students in the kitchen – this is a shared home where all inside the home help each other 🙂 

The volunteer will be a part of the staff – a very special fellowship that is only found at a folk high school. He/she will participate in the subjects in the spare time, and through the entire stay the staff will help and support the volunteer whenever needed. The international environment creates the possibility for the volunteer to be part of different intercultural activities and we encourage the volunteer to help create an intercultural environment at the school, bringing students together. This could be done through informal cultural activities, dancing classes, language classes, etc. The possibilities are many, why we also encourage the volunteer to be proactive and take initiatives. The volunteer collaborates with staff, teachers and students on different projects. For example, assisting teachers to make lights on a show or help students to record a video or take pictures.

The primary task of the volunteer is to document the daily life at the school, editing the footage and images and to publish it on social media platforms (home page, facebook, instagram). The volunteer will also work with graphic design such as making posters and flyers for events. There will be plenty of opportunity for new initiatives and for the volunteer to create his/her own activities. If the volunteer has specific creative skills he/she will also be very welcome to create practical projects using those skills or assist teaching or offer workshops in collaboration with a teacher.

There are also ad hoc duties that need to be done as the school is the home for many people. Therefore, we expect that our volunteers participate in various activities of cleaning or making food. Typically, cleaning is 1-2 hours a week, and making food is 1-2 weeks per year with other students. 

As the programme is quite intensive, there are often activities at the High School on the weekends. If the volunteer works during the weekend, he/she will have time off at another time during the week. The average working hours per day will be about 6-7 hours. The volunteers will have Danish lessons they can attend inside of the school together with our international students.

The volunteer must be mature, open-minded and able to work based on his/her own initiative. Thus, our volunteers must be proactive and ready to be part of the staff and to represent the school and our values.  We would prefer a person with a good command of spoken and written English language. Volunteers with a good knowledge of computer technology and communication such as video, photography, editing and sound will be preferred, but other intercultural skills will be important assets. Volunteers with an interest in globalization, art, performing Arts or artistic processes are also welcome.

The volunteer will stay and live at the hosting project. The volunteer lives at the hosting project, the volunteer will eat his/her meals there.

The Centre expects the volunteers to take an active part in the daily educational work, dressed in reconstructed clothing and acting as citizens of the medieval town. Informal training will be provided as needed, and the volunteers may among other things be required to take part in tournaments, demonstrations of siege engines, and similar activities – depending on the personality and abilities of each individual. The work at the centre will provide the volunteer with an indepth knowledge of medieval life in Denmark and at the same time it will give the volunteer volunteer the possibility of developing a wide range of abilities and experience within the various areas of activities of the Middelaldercenter. It’s important that the volunteer understand that the work at Middelaldercentret is only practical. We have no tasks in the administration or any academic work to offer the volunteer. In between the activities we expect that the volunteer work with some of the handcraft we show the guests. The volunteer can choose between dying, rope making, sewing or carpenting. The volunteer have the possibility to help prepare the horses for the tournament.  A typical working day will be from 9.15 am to 16.15 pm and the volunteer will also do occasional work at weekends. However, the working week will not exceed 35 hours per week.

The work in the medieval town is team work, it’s important that everybody can rely on each other, so it demands responsibility to the work and the tasks which is given.

We expect the volunteer to be flexible and willing to try different kinds of work. The volunteer must be openminded, curious and interested in learning more about nature and history. The volunteer must like to spend time outdoors, as many of our activities are outdoor activities. The vounteer must be able to speak English at a conversational level and willing to learn Danish (Scandinavian).

It’s important to point out that when the volunteer work in the medieval city no modern things is allowed. Fx no piercings, no visible tattoos, only jewelry which is medieval approved and so on.

One volunteer stays at the centre in their dorms, and one volunteer stays at student dorms off the grounds.

The volunteers living in a student doom: The volunteer will eat some meals at the project and some meals at the doom. The volunteer will be given food money to cover the expenses for food he/she has to pay him/herself. Transport to and from home to the project is covered by the programme.

The volunteers living in a host family: In the host families the volunteer will be expected to become part of the family and as such take part in the activities and responsibilities in the family. The volunteer will have his/her three meals provided by the host family and/or project. Transport to and from home to the project is covered by the programme.

AFS and Middelaldercentret will be deciding who will stay in host families and who will stay in student doom. Therefore, we kindly ask you all to fill in the session in the application where we ask you to reflect on living in a host family.

As Eisbjerghus Internationale Efterskole has an international profile, the main tasks of the ESC volunteers will be to contribute to strengthening the integration between the international and Danish students as well as to help prepare students who go abroad for their intercultural experience and encounter. The specific activities and events will be created and developed in close cooperation between the ESC volunteers and the staff of the school.

The volunteers will be part of the special fellowship that exists on a Danish Efterskole and Folk High School. As the volunteers are older than the students, they will also be positioned as leaders, persons of authority and consultants, and this is a great opportunity for the EVS volunteers to develop their pedagogical abilities and the ability to structure and plan events for others.

Tasks the volunteer will take part in:

• Planning and carrying out afternoon, evening and weekend activities with the students (music, arts, drama, games, literatur, your language, sports or any other interests that you have)
• Developing the work with and support to the students who have different cultural backgrounds. And facilitating a contact group for these students together with one of the teachers
• Assisting teachers in the subjects Going Global (preparation for exchanges) and Global Citizenship
• Planning and carrying out small and larger projects with students and teachers, like charity projects, educational projects, campaigns ect.
• Producing small films and texts for the Eisbjerghus Internationale Efterskole’s social media sites as well as the homepage together with a group of students and the teacher responsible for communication
• Taking part in one of the short term exchanges (China, South Korea, Spain, Hungary, India or Japan); travelling with the group as well as hosting the programme
• Practical chores around the school in which students also take part (kitchen, cleaning, maintenance etc.)
• Maybe assist teaching in the subjects Global Citizenship and/or Global Perspectives.

Eisbjerghus Efterskole prefers a creative person who enjoys speaking in front of a crowd and who is motivated to develop events and activities that strengthen the integration between Danish and international students and strengthen the Global and European citizenship of the students. The volunteer must be mature, open-minded and able to work based on his/her own initiative, but also work in close cooperation with the staff at the project. Furthermore, Eisbjerghis Efterskole prefers a person with a good command of spoken and written English language. The volunteer should be prepared to work also in the evenings and weekends and should be prepared to live in the countryside among a lot of young people.

It would be preferred (if possible) that the volunteer have one or both of the following profiles: One profile with interest in leadership, process and project management and communication (social media management), and the other profile with interest in creative and artistic projects and processes.

Volunteers will be lodged at the school where he/she will either have his/her own room or share a room with another volunteer. There will be shared toilet and bath facilities. The school will provide meals three times per day together with the students and colleagues.

In Ådum kindergarten the volunteer will learn how a kindergarten works in a small Danish community. Thus, the volunteer will participate in the activities which are planned, but also have the opportunity to plan other activities for smaller or bigger groups of children.

Ådum kindergarten appreciates traditions and therefore celebrates birthdays, Christmas, Easter etc. Thus, the volunteer gets a great insight in the Danish traditions celebrated in a kindergarten.

The volunteer will have a supervisor in the kindergarten, but he or she will also be a part of the regular staff.

Ådum kindergarten prefers a volunteer who has a background with child caring. And that the volunteer has the ability to interact with the children in a good and meaningful way. The volunteer should be interested in working with children, and interested in the development of children. The volunteer should be open minded and able to speak English on a conversational level.

The volunteer will either stay with a local Danish host family.

Through a stay at Café Utopia the volunteer will get insight in all aspects of operating a café.

Moreover, he/she will get knowledge about people with mental diseases and get a deeper understanding on how to engage with them. The volunteer will also learn about social/economic organisations and the benefit they provide to the greater community.

The volunteer will work alongside with the staff in various areas depending on the background, education and interest of the particular volunteer.

Activities could include:

• Waiting on tables
• Assisting in the kitchen
• General maintenance in the café
• Office work

But there will also be plenty of opportunities to make his/her own activities such as organising different kinds of events.

The project is open to everyone; however, volunteers with a high level of English will be preferred. We are very flexible concerning the profile of the volunteer. He/she may have a background/interest in social work, catering or culture; however, the most important requirement is that the volunteer has both empathy and the understanding of dealing with mentally vulnerable people.
